Umbrella employment is straightforward and easy to understand:

The agency or client outsources the responsibility of employing you, and everything that comes with it, to us (the Umbrella company), like any business, we pay our employees for the work they carry out for us. We generate the income we need to do that by charging the agency or client for your services. The rate at which we do this is discussed and negotiated by you and the agency when you apply for your particular role.

1. Why should I join Genie Umbrella? You’ll become an employee of ours, therefore you are going to want to know the answers to some very important questions:

1. 1. How much will I get paid?

We charge the agency for the work you have completed at the pay rate you have negotiated, and we calculate your pay from the income we receive. How we do this is explained here and like everything else we do, it’s done for your benefit.

1. 2. When do I get paid with an Umbrella Company?

Our back office support means that you’ll be paid accurately and consistently for the work you’ve done for us. In the vast majority of cases, you’ll be paid on the same day every week or month so you can depend on us to help make your life easier. We run our payroll process at least once every day of the week, to make sure we’re paying you as quickly as possible.

1. 3. What benefits do you offer me as an employee?

It goes without saying that you’ll be covered for statutory sick pay, maternity pay and holiday pay; you’re an employee after all! We’ll also contribute to a workplace pension scheme if you want us to.

You’d rightly expect to get paid for the work you’ve done, regardless of any other factors, and you can rest assured knowing that’s the case too.

You’ll have access to other employee benefits like childcare vouchers, and we can put you in touch with our partner Contractor Financials for a range of financial services tailored for professional contractors like you.

We’ll provide you with Health and Safety training, and we’ll cover you for public liability, professional indemnity and employer’s liability insurance when you’re on the client’s site.

1. 4. So how easy is it to work for you?

It’s as easy as working on the assignment you’ve chosen, as we’ll take care of the rest. Once you’ve joined and we’ve made sure you understand how things work, all we ask is that you submit your timesheets and business expenses claims on a regular basis. In return, we’ll make sure that we pay your salary and reimburse you for your expenses as soon as we can.

You will have access to a 24/7 online portal to upload your expense claims and timesheets, look at past transactions and virtually anything else you can think of, including videos and tutorials on how things work. You can access the portal via your PC, Tablet or Smartphone no matter where you are.

We will send you SMS messages in the morning of your pay day to let you know that we’re paying you, and again in the afternoon to tell you how much.

If you do need to ask us any questions that the portal can’t answer, we’ve got an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team of Employee Support people waiting to hear from you from 0800-1730 on week days.
