Up, Close & Personal with James Davis....
I am one of the team of contractor specialist Client Accountant’s here at Genie Accountancy. I have been with Genie Accountancy since it’s inception, having been presented with the opportunity of joining an exciting dynamic environment.
It was a departure from my previous existence in corporate finance with large multinationals but a challenge that I relished and one that I find rewarding each day, growing with the company as it also grows from strength to strength.
Seeing the company grow from that empty room and a wealth of ideas really does make me proud to be a part of the company and be surrounded by like minded individuals.
Our role isn’t simply to provide accounts and tax returns it is to impart knowledge and to educate on the processes – it is also to offer you the support you need to not worry about the accounting side but to let our experience comfort you in the knowledge that you are in safe hands.
The assumption of an accountant is that of dusty leger books and a still grey atmosphere as the bean counters go about their role like something out of a Dickens novel. Genie Accountancy couldn’t be further from the truth, a typical day could see me travelling around London armed with my iPad meeting clients in as varied locations as Westminster to the Tate Modern.
By meeting with my clients I am able to get a sense of who they are and what makes them tick, not only that but I find that when personally meeting clients it is easier to explain the necessary concepts far easier than on email or over the phone.
I find my clients roles interesting and varied, it is always exciting to speak to clients and understand what they do – there is always a role I have not heard of or a task I never knew existed.
No two clients are the same, they may have the same job title, even work at the same location but ultimately they will have different ambitions, different goals in life. I like to understand my clients to enable them to get the most out of their contracting and the very best out of their relationship with Genie Accountancy.
Outside of work my main passion is rugby, until recently this took the form of captaining my local side for many years until my knees advised me to stop and retire disgracefully. I still keep my hand in at the local rugby club where I sit on the committee and still assist with day to day operations.
Like much of the country in a post London 2012 era, I picked up road cycling and am lucky enough to be in a position to cycle to work during the summer months having taken Genie Accountancy up on the offer of the Cycle to Work scheme. Cycle to Work became Cycle to Paris and anywhere inbetween as I embraced the sport.
