Like most of the British I love cosy nights in and cooking hearty, warming food for the family. Nights in playing games or out socialising with friends, people are always shocked when I say I’m an Accountant. Cooking and Accountancy are my passions, although I still struggle with converting portion sizes! Dancing was a big part of my life for13 years, until I was old enough to realise I was only ever graceful typing on a calculator!
Becoming an Accountant was always in my genes, it has been a passion and career for three generations now. Sitting with my Dad completing my Mums tax return each year was a regular, asking as many questions as I could get out in seconds. A curious child wanting to know and learn everything! One of the great qualities of Genie Accountancy is feeding that thirst for knowledge, whenever a mention of development or going on a course, our Operations Director, Helen Christopher is straight on with the “book it and go”!
Working with large corporate firms never appealed to me, it all seemed too robotic and impersonal, working with real people who want to grow their business from a newly formed company to an established business is exciting. Going on that journey with a client makes you feel a part of something bigger. Helping to organise the structure of the company and the tax affairs, make their life easier and more able to focus on making the money.
I’ve worked with Contractors now for over three years; some firms get so large the personal touch fades which is the last thing I wanted to lose; it is the part of my job that keeps me motivated. Coming to Orange Genie was the best move ever made, if ever I saw a personal touch it lies here with them.
Having that strong professional relationship with my clients is so important. I have one client who has come with me through two different companies, not once wanting to lose me as his Accountant, the boost from that is amazing. We talk regularly about fine dining, as we are both foodies and what we have been up to at the weekend as if old friends, for a moment you forget you are this stereotyped ‘boring’ Accountant as you laugh along and take restaurant tips from each other!
