I realised how rewarding working with people can be with my first part-time job working for a high street fashion store. Working on the customer service desk had its challenges at times but it was here that I found interacting with people as part of your day to day job role can be so fulfilling and something I enjoyed. 

I was drawn to a career in accounting being typically good with numbers, having a penchant for attention to detail and keen organisational skills (I make lists about the lists I need to make!). I consider myself a people person; I enjoy meeting people and putting a face to the company name, getting to know the directors behind the set of accounts and tax liabilities.

Unfortunately my first role in accounting ticked all of the negative stereotypes synonymous with jobs in accounting – an abundance of spread sheets, repetitive data input, number crunching and little contact with the outside world. I had to ask myself - was this what I wanted from my career?

I moved to a Top 30 accountancy company, starting out as an accounts assistant and later being promoted to accountant. Here I started working towards my professional qualification to support the training and knowledge I was exposed to with a goal to specialise in UK taxation and become a Chartered accountant.

Joining Genie Accountancy has been as gratifying and successful as I could hope. Being a contractor accountant means I have been able to pursue a career in accountancy with the advantage of building close and productive relationships with my clients. It was a fantastic opportunity to join a growing company that really cares about their contribution to the contracting and freelancing world. I’ve been welcomed with open arms by the team.

Everyone at Genie Accountancy is so friendly and passionate about their jobs – and it’s contagious! This is reflected in the nature of our service and care provided to our clients, which in turn is supported by the number of referred clients and glowing testimonials.

I’ve now been working with contractors for over two years, gaining a rounded experience in the industry and a strong understanding of contractor’s needs. I know it’s an ever changing industry that Genie Accountancy are dedicated to evolving with, always seeking feedback - and not just for a pat on the back but for constructive criticism too - so that we can continue to better our approach to our accountancy services.

I’m truly grateful to be part of a company that is so passionate and committed to improving the welfare of contractors and freelancers. I can relate to these values personally as I look to continually improve myself, whether it’s in my career with studies and ensuring I keep up with current tax and laws or in my personal life where I’ve taken to running, working from 10k distance towards my first half-marathon and who knows, maybe even a marathon by the end of 2015.


I’m a young, enthusiastic accountant who’s proud to challenge the boring, grey stereotypes. At the weekends you can find me following my local club Watford FC home and away. If I’m not at the football I’ll be either shopping or baking. I love to experiment with new recipes and expose my family and friends to the outcome – good or bad!
